Start with people, then shape the environment
These general prompts complement direct consultation. They are not legal requirements, interpreter standards, or a compliance checklist.
Ask before assuming
Offer communication formats as options and ask each participant what works for the specific setting. Avoid treating one preference as universal or permanent.
Make the visual field usable
- Review glare, backlighting, and facial visibility from more than one seat.
- Keep presentation content and the presenter within a practical line of sight.
- Confirm caption visibility and test the backup plan before participants arrive.
Put access into the schedule
Plan arrival information, a welcome that names available formats, pauses around major ideas, accessible breaks, multiple ways to ask questions, and a clear follow-up method.
Know when the app stops
Access Canvas cannot translate ASL, assess an interpreter, determine a legal obligation, or certify an environment. Work with qualified professionals and the people receiving access for those decisions.
Protect private information
Keep participant names, disability information, private records, and confidential event details out of the app. Export only what is necessary and review the destination before sharing.
